The Class activities have been supervised by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association since 1993. Class Officers are advised by the Alumni Association Student Programs advisors, now located in the new Holtzman Alumni Center off of West Campus Drive. Following a rich andtime-honored tradition at Virginia Tech, eight Class officers for each Class are elected during their freshman year and serve "for life". The Class Program is registered with the Student Activities Office and principally maintains the tradition of the Virginia Tech Class Ring program. The Class office is located at 313 Squires Student Center. Phone number is 231-9911. Each Class level at Virginia Tech has an announcement-only Listserv used to inform the Class members of Class activities and student programs of the Alumni Association. Class listservs are compiled by a student's academic level indicated by the registrar's office of Virginia Tech. Because of this, entering students with Advanced Placement credit with be automatically placed on the Class listserv for their academic level. If you have enough credit hours to be included with the Class of 2008 but consider yourself part of the Class of 2009, please email the Class Listmaster at vtclass@vt.edu and ask to be changed. The Class Ring of Virginia Tech is one of the oldest and most beloved of all traditions of the University. The very first Virginia Tech ring was made for the Class of 1911 but the Virginia Tech Class Ring Tradition began with the Class of 1914, the first to chose a student committee to design a ring that would be meaningful to the Class. The Class Ring Design Committee since that time has been selected during the sophomore year and is responsible for creating a collection unique to each Class. The Ring program is distinctive from other colleges in that it is a complete redesign of an entire collection each year. Although the traditional Class rings differ in design, certain elements are included each year, helping to make the Virginia Tech ring one of the most prominent in the nation. The screaming eagle, American flag, campus buildings, and an interlocking chain around the bezel are some of the items which contribute to its recognition. At the annual Ring Premiere in the fall, the collection is unveiled to the junior class. Rings are officially presented to juniors during a formal ceremony at Ring Dance in the spring, a two-day dance tradition that dates back with the Class of 1935. The Class Program, through the advising of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, maintains the tradition of the Virginia Tech Class Ring. Through the Association, alumni must have their class year confirmed before either ordering or replacing a ring to ensure the continued integrity of the program. Dating back to 1923, almost all rings can be replaced in their original design. The Virginia Tech Ring Display Case which houses Virginia Tech Class rings from 1914 until present is located in the Williamsburg Room of Squires Student Center. Ring sales on campus are traditionally held in the Williamsburg Room at various times each semester. The application process to serve on the Ring Design Committee begins in the fall of the sophomore year.
